The History of Kingfisher

The year is 1857

Five of India’s most prominent breweries join forces. United Breweries, as they became known, wanted to develop a flavourful pilsner, inspired by the classic European style, but lighter on the palate to refresh its consumers in the humid subcontinent.

A thing of beauty

This recipe proved to be a huge success. Over a century and a half later, Kingfisher is India’s No.1 lager and in the top 20 most-sold beer brands world-wide. To this day, Kingfisher still uses the same revered recipe that made it a success.

Spreading its wings

In the 1980s, Kingfisher spread its wings worldwide and quickly became a firm favourite in the UK. Seen on the bars in Indian restaurants, sports clubs and premium bars, Kingfisher continues to go from strength to strength and wins over new fans every day.
